Getting to the beach

Coconut Beach House is set on a private 17 acre property beside the beautiful Coconut Beach.  The house itself is set in tropical gardens bordered by rainforest. Behind the house, you’ll find an enchanting 500 metre (6 minute) private rainforest walk to the beach, through mangrove and the most stunning fan palm gallery we’ve ever seen. We can’t think of a more awe-inspiring way to start the day.

Sustainable power system

As you may know, the Daintree Coast is home to Australia’s largest sustainable energy community.  We don’t have any grid power, and we generate our own power for each individual property, by means of solar panels, hydro or wind turbines or petrol/diesel generators. At Coconut Beach House, we have a state of the art power system with solar panels on the roof, a large bank of batteries to store the power, and a petrol generator that cuts in automatically when needed.  But we still need to be a bit careful about what appliances we use as our system can only cope with a certain load.

So what does that mean for your stay?  From inside the house, everything looks like a normal house, with 240V power sockets throughout, so you can charge your laptops and devices.  But you will notice a few things missing, because they are too powerful for our system – toaster, microwave, air-conditioning and kitchen electrical appliances with a heating element. If you think you can’t live without these things, then you may find a house that would suit you in Daintree Village on the south side of the river where grid power is available.  Or you might like to try our friends at the gorgeous mist at Cape Tribulation who have an air-conditioned pavilions suiting 2 persons.

Mobile phones, WiFi & digital detox

Cape Trib is a great place to detox from the digital world.  For the most part, there’s no mobile phone coverage (although you can get a couple of bars reception on the beach behind the house).  The only internet available is via satellite, and we’re pleased to offer free WiFi throughout your stay, but please be aware that our data is very limited and the speed is relatively slow, so it’s not suitable for streaming or downloading video.  There are also paid WiFi hotspots at some local cafes and resorts.
